Winsyung is a dreamer born in 2003 who builds otherworldly scenes through his nonsensical eyes, where letters and writings are mirrored and transformed into uncanny creatures. With traditional media such as pencil and paper, he creates absurd scenes filled with hidden stories and narratives. Having lived his whole life in Jakarta, despite being a cultural melting pot city, he felt that traditional culture was increasingly being left behind. That was one of the reasons why he began his exploration of batik making in 2022. He continues to develop his work with cultural influences to this day, studying traditional motifs and their philosophies, then incorporating his own practice with contemporary relevance. He also creates art to rival the rush and superficiality of urban life, as he wants people to slow down, to embrace their sense of curiosity and play in searching for the hidden realities through his absurd depictions.
