SATHAR is an artist persona created in 2012 by Riandy Karuniawan. Represented as a humanoid figure with insect-like antennae and a third eye, SATHAR reflects questions about human consciousness, identity, and the forces that shape our inner world.
Influenced by Japanese pop culture, manga, tokusatsu, retro video games, and digital culture, SATHAR’s work moves across painting, murals, illustration, comics, music videos, animation, digital painting, and pixel art. His visual language combines organic forms, uncanny characters, glitch aesthetics, and retro-futuristic imagery.
Since 2021, SATHAR has expanded his practice using digital art as a new space for artistic expression. For SATHAR, technology is not only a tool, but also a way to question how humans live, remember, and transform in the digital age.
“SATHAR in me is the SATHAR in you.”
