I am a visual artist based in Central Jakarta, Indonesia. My artistic practice evolves at the intersection of personal experiences, study, and cultural transformation. Much of my work is brought to life through a fictional character named Riani. Nirang Virgiawan is a visual artist who transforms absurd thoughts into playful yet uncanny visuals. Through his character Riani a small figure often caught in blank or confused expressions he explores the odd, overlooked fragments of daily life. His artworks are joyful but unsettling at once, inviting us to laugh at nonsense while rethinking what feels familiar. I’m Not Walking, I’m Flying This Piece is about refusing to move the way you’re expected to. The figure doesn’t walk, doesn’t follow the ground, doesn’t obey gravity. She moves by choosing lightness, by turning hesitation into wings. The bird form is not a costume, but a decision. A decision to trust instinct over direction, imagination over certainty. The exaggerated feathers, floating body, and swirling motion represent a state of becoming. when movement no longer feels like effort, but release. This piece reflects a moment where progress stops feeling heavy. Where growth no longer drags, but lifts. Where survival transforms into play. This is not escape. This is momentum. This is choosing to fly when the world expects you to walk.

Giving means knowing when to return, when to let go, and when to place something back where it belongs. The bird stands as a presence of protection and continuity, while the egg becomes a symbol of life that must be held gently, then released. To be blessed is to be trusted. To give is to return what was never meant to be owned.

Hidup yg menghidupi Karya ini merefleksikan hubungan timbal balik antara manusia dan alam. Melalui sosok Riani yang memeluk sebuah pohon, karya ini mengajak kita untuk mengingat bahwa kehidupan tidak hanya tentang menerima, tetapi juga merawat. Pohon hadir sebagai simbol dari segala sesuatu yang menopang kehidupan manusia—udara yang kita hirup, makanan yang kita konsumsi, hingga lingkungan yang memungkinkan kita bertumbuh. Di tengah dunia yang semakin berpusat pada kebutuhan manusia, karya ini mengingatkan bahwa keberlangsungan hidup bergantung pada kemampuan kita untuk menjaga ciptaan lain yang hidup bersama kita.
