Godmatter is a pseudonym for a Jakarta, Indonesia–based visual artist whose work depicts the stories of the main characters, Gatot the Good Guy and Ganjar the Bad Guy, who live in Gotenia, a fictional country with Karaat as its capital. The work brings the reality of our surroundings into Karaat’s daily life, delivering “striking” messages through a sarcastic and comedic tone. Godmatter explores various media, ranging from illustrations, comic strips, books, paintings, art toys, and street art, to puppet shows, printed matter, installations, and visual storytelling that reflects contemporary social behavior, absurd everyday experiences, and cultural references found in everyday life.
