My name’s Celestial Desolation. I’m an illustrator based in Jakarta, Indonesia and I draw things that look cute but don’t really feel that way once you sit with them for a second. Most of what I make comes from pretty mundane moments, stuff that shouldn’t feel heavy but somehow does. Small habits, weird thoughts, quiet spirals, the kind of slice of life things people don’t usually say out loud. I just push them a bit further, add a sprinkle of humor, until they get slightly absurd but still relatable. A lot of this shows up through a pink bunny I draw a lot named Pipsqueak. The name came from a slang that literally means coward, which already tells you enough. He’s not really likable. He complains, avoids things, acts selfish, says the wrong stuff at the wrong time. Honestly, yeah, he can be an asshole. But he’s real in a way that’s hard to dress up or fix. I’m not trying to redeem him or make him better, I just let him exist as he is. And if you look at him long enough, it stops being about him anyway. I keep the visuals soft but chaotic, a lil bit janky even, but it suits the whole theme. I guess it’s just how I cope with things. Turning something real into something a bit absurd, so it’s easier to look at and digest, even if it still hits quite hard.
